A YOUNG nurse died two weeks after bumping her head in a minor car crash.

Kim Wilde, 24, a nurse at Arrowe Park hospital, was seen by doctors after the crash and was thought to be fine, an inquest has heard.

But, just two weeks later, her devastated father found her dead in the bedroom of their West Kirby home.

Tests later revealed she had died of a brain haemorrhage.

Coroner Christopher Johnson at Wallasey town hall yesterday concluded Miss Wilde died from the injuries she had sustained.

He was satisfied the treatment given to her was appropriate.

He said: “It is also clear from the evidence heard today from both of the doctors involved the treatment that was prescribed was consistent with being involved in a minor road traffic incident and the treatment was consistent with the findings of those doctors at that time.”

Miss Wilde, who lived with her father in a flat in Shrewbury Road, had been driving a friend home when her Peugeot 206 was involved in a collision with another car in February 2006.

The inquest heard she had been diving along Mount Road and was intending to cross the junction to Bedford Drive in Egerton Park when her car was struck.

She banged her head on either the side window or the windscreen.

The following day, she attended Arrowe Park’s A&E, and, after an examination, was discharged.

The coroner heard she was given with verbal and written advice about head and neck injuries and told to return if she had further problems.

She later went to her local doctor complaining of headaches and was examined again and told to return should there be further difficulties.

Two days later she phoned for a sick note and was issued one for a week.

Just over two weeks after the initial accident, her father George Wilde, a retired police inspector, came home to find her bed with a headache.

He offered to send for the GP but she declined so he went downstairs.

When he returned, she had collapsed.

Attempts were made to resuscitate her which continued at hospital, but without success.

An investigative police report concluded that Miss Wilde failed to give way to the driver of the other vehicle.

Speaking after the hearing, Mr Wilde said: “The family needs time to digest a tragic set of circumstances. Our daughter is very sadly missed.” ... (more)
